How to set up an HDA Server
Part 1: Installing Historian Client Tools
Please note that this is a purchasable option and does not come with every Historian License. If you wish to use it, please contact your account representative.
Open the ISO, go to the InstallLauncher.exe and when the splash screen pops up, only install the client tools.
When the options and features for install pop up, please make sure that “Historian Administrator” and “HDA server” are checked and installed on your system.
During the setup of the client tools, it will ask for the Historian server name please make sure there are no typos. We will have to dive into the registry if so….It will ask you to restart your machine after install.
Once the program installs, open up the administrator. This should mimic your Historian server on the other machine. If so, you have successfully installed your client tools.
Part 2: HDA server:
Open the Historian Administrator Login dialog box. If Historian is already open, double-click on the Main button to open the Historian Administrator Login dialog box.
Click the Browse for Server button
From the Servers list, select the Historian server you want to configure .
OPC HDA Interface Support may say “not available” or “not licensed”, make sure you select “Connect” and this will update your prompt to show the correct status of your HDA server. Sometimes removing and adding the server will also fix it.
Click Set Selected Server as Target of HDA Server, and then click OK.
I have test this configuration with a Historian 8.0 Client tools and Historian 3.5 Server. Historians are backwards compatible and the Client tools of a newer version can connect to an older Historian if needed.
