Uninstall KepServerEX for a clean install

Before you get started you will need:

The host computer Authentication Credentials for the License Utility if this option was chosen during installation.

Administrator level privileges on the host computer.

MyKepware.com account

User must have matching major version of the KepServerEX install.exe to use the Remove option i.e 6.4 .XXX If the installer no longer exists on the machine it can be downloaded from MyKepware.com (see below)

An internet browser with a stable internet connection.

Caution: Microsoft Edge browser has known incompatibility issues with this process; use of an alternate browser is recommended

 

PART 1: PREPERATION

  1. Create backup of project file

    1. Open server configuration utillty > File / Save As / your_project.opf

    2. Save the file to a non-Kepware directory like on the desktop

  2. Return the licenses being used by KEPServerEX via the License Utility

    1. Transfer Kepware License Activation

    2. Be sure that you have copy the Activation ID to Activate later.

  3. Shutdown License Utility / Quick Client / Configuration Utility

PART 2: UNINSTALL KEPSERVEREX

 

WARNING: User must have matching major version of install.exe to use Remove option

DO NOT use Microsoft Add / Remove Programs

 

  1. Right Click on the installer of current running Major version select Run as Administrator

2. Select the Remove option when prompted, Click Next.

3. Select Option for "Remove User Data" to delete project file and user settings, Click Remove

4. Click Finish

PART 3: CLEAR TRUSTED STORAGE

 

  1. Browse to C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet and delete the 3 files that begin with "kepwared"

    1. Note that kepwared_0036a100_tsf.data is likely hidden, but will still need to be deleted

    2. To enable visibility of hidden items in Windows explorer, select View and enable the check box for Hidden items

2. Note that if any folders or files do not exist, proceed to next step

3. Reset the computer

PART 4: REINSTALL KEPSERVEREX & REACTIVATE LICENSE

  1. Reinstall KEPServerEX as Administrator.

  2. Re-apply the license returned in Part 1 step 2 above following the How to Activate a License in PTC Kepware Products

  3. If not automatically loaded, import your saved project file.
