How Do I Transfer Tag Information From One Historian To Another ?

Information and Procedure Below

There are two major files that contain information with the Historian: a .IHC and a .IHA.

  • IHC file contains all the tags and configuration settings for historian

  • IHA files contain all the data collected throughout the time of the Historian.

Before you begin this process please note, that the Historian ihdataarchiver_x64 service needs to be shut down when working on the .IHC file at their respective Historian Servers.

To move all information (non-archival) from one historian to another, make a copy of the .IHC file on the old historian and move it into the Historical Data/Archives folder where the default .IHC file is located.

There can’t be more than one .IHC file with the same name, make sure the .IHC file you desire is in this folder with the same name as the current historian. Please note, it is only a file name, so changing the file name to that of the new historian will not disrupt anything inside of it.

Restart the service mentioned above, this should fill in the information from your old historian to the new one.

Things to consider:

  • If the collector names were different on the old historian, they will need to be updated on the new Historian if the new Historian collector name was changed. Luckily, you can search by collector or even tag mask to find the tags that need to be updated to the correct collector, select them all and update them at once.

  • Check default storage for archives and make sure the path in the Historian Administrator is the correct one.

  • Change the read only date to a 262980 (30 years) so that way you have access to all the data.

To conclude, its easy to move the file over, just remember to check anything that might be configured for your old system so that the Historian will work as expected.
