Basic Historian and iFIX getting started reminders
iFIX
*It is important that once you install a fresh version of iFIX on a computer, you install all the SIMS before trying to integrate and set up your project. Those can be found on the SIM hyperlink in the iFIX main page.
You can build a majority of your project in demo mode, some licensed options may not be available but the majority of the iFIX project can be developed without an issue. The project management document walks you through setting up a project and bringing over the files needed. (Not all of them are needed)… It would be a good idea to find the licenses that you’re using in your system, contact our orders department (orders@automatech.com) and ask them to be updated from M4 to Advantage (if applicable), along with updating the Software version as well.
Newer iFIX licenses can work on older iFIX versions to an extend. Windows XP , for example, is not supported with our licensing software anymore d
Historian
As far as you Historian and collectors question. You use software called “Collectors” there many different kinds that are available in the Historian but the most common one is the iFIX Collector. Depending on how you set up your environment, if the Historian is on a remote machine, you will need to install the collectors on the data source I.E iFIX Server. During the install, you will point the collectors to the Historian server. If the iFIX Server and Historian Server are on the same machine, you do the same process.
Reminder that if you’re connecting anything remotely to the Historian, you will need to install CLIENT TOOLS. This will allow for all your remote connections to connect with the Historian. DO NOT INSTALL ANOTHER INSTANCE OF HISTORIAN on the iFIX SERVER, just the collectors and client tools. These can be found in the same ISO as the one you used to install the action Historian program.
